Tuesday's Tunes 7: Week of Mar 5
Lucky you! Double-postage this Tuesday. Here are some new releases of note this week (and there are quite a few):
Arcade Fire -- Neon Bible
Oh man. I totally blogged about this as soon as it leaked -- and even prior! I'm so glad this is finally out; I'm going to wait until I see them again this May to pick up the CD, or I may just pick it up on vinyl if Rotate This manages to hold a copy long enough for me to get there. In spite of the album meant to be heard as a whole (and in fact being greater than the sum of its parts), notable tracks include Keep The Car Running, Intervention, and (Antichrist Television Blues) -- yes, parentheses included.
Air -- Pocket Symphony
Much more mellow than Talkie Walkie, their last release, Air's latest offering is possibly their best since Moon Safari. Reaching what may actually be the happy balance between experimental and accessible, Pocket Symphony has pleased not only my ears, but many of my friends' and acquaintances' ears among others. It's too bad I've been discovering (see bottom) so many other new bands; this would have otherwise had more than the three plays I've given it thus far.
!!! -- Myth Takes
After only hearing of !!! recently (through Stereogum, in fact), I was incredibly pleased with Myth Takes. It's really hard to peg these guys down; genres that come to mind are pop, punk, electro, experimental, mild avant-garde, and rock. I mean, sure, you can call them "experimental electro pop-punk", but it really doesn't do !!! justice. Whatever they are to you, this album is really good.
Apostle Of Hustle -- National Anthem Of Nowhere
I mentioned this a little while ago, but now that it's been widely released, I feel like such a great Canadian indie rock album deserves another plug.
The Stooges -- The Weirdness
I haven't heard this one yet, but I feel as if it's my duty to pass on and reformulate what's being said about it: Iggy Pop was great in his day, but this album sullies the reputation The Stooges had made for themselves in the heyday of '70s punk. Sorry, Big I.
As I mentioned above, I feel as if I should quickly mention a few bands that have been distracting me lately. If they continue to do so, I may just write a longer post! Say hello to Cloud Cult, Love Like Fire, and Georgie James.
