Dress For Excess

Wow. Just when I thought people couldn't be more paranoid/greedy/excessive than they already are, I come across this article on Engadget. That's right: a keyless remote-controlled cabinet lock.

I can't find the product's listing on Smallbone Devizes' website, but I've found an alternate source backing up the existence of this product. Seriously, I don't understand why anyone would pay $650 (US) to protect their cabinets.

There is no way in hell that a greedy roommate or whomever else could run up a tab amounting to $650 worth of foodstuffs without being confronted; any more valuable items that would be worth stealing should probably be kept out of the hands (or eyes) of said thiefs-to-be. Or even locked away in a cheaper -- yet still as effective -- solution.

In my opinion, this device is a terribly gaudy solution to a virtually non-existent (or at least not-worth-it) problem.
